High School Course Descriptions
FAME Independent Study offers a wide variety of courses. The following is a list of our current course offering. Many courses have corresponding course descriptions associated with them that must be followed when taking that course. Where no description has been developed, the Independent Study teacher designs the course based on the curriculum that is being used. Click on the underlined titles for a complete course description. Courses in italic are also on the FAME UC “a-g” approved course list. All documents are PDF.

General Education Path
Students following the general education path will work closely with their FAME Independent Study teacher to select curriculum materials that match the students learning style and abilities. These materials may be chosen from the above list as well as from the options provided on the course description. A packaged curriculum is not required. An Independent Study Teacher may select from a variety materials in order to put an appropriate curriculum package together for a student. The teacher will draw upon his/her own personal experience, review materials in our school library, or seek guidance from colleagues in the selection of appropriate materials.
Basic Level Courses
Courses designated as “Basic” in the course title are designed to meet the state’s academic standards while at the same time meeting a student’s need for curriculum commensurate with abilities. The curriculum used in these courses is written at a lower reading level and is geared towards helping the student build basic skills. Students enrolled in these courses must use specific curriculum as indicated on the individual course descriptions. Standardized test results and other placement tools will be used to determine placement in these courses.
The course titles list contains several course titles that begin with IS. This title has been established to allow flexibility in some course areas for students in our general education program and for college prep students fulfilling elective requirements. This course title must be used in conjunction with a packaged curriculum or distance- learning course.
