FAME Public Charter School enrollment process:
Independent Study:
FAME accepts registration packets on an ongoing bases in our Independent Study program. If you wish to enroll your child for the 2012-2013 School year, please download the registration packet and submit it as indicated on the form.
Site Based:
FAME enrolls new students based on available space. FAME accepts new student Pre-Enrollment formsin the spring from interested families (and ongoing thereafter). Each spring, we determine how many openings are available at each grade level. In the event that there is more interest than openings, FAME holds a Public Random Drawing to place students. Once available spots are filled we keep a running waiting list and fill openings on a first come basis from the wait list.
Determination Day:This date is established annually, typically during the first part of March. Pre-Enrollment forms received or postmarked by the date are counted to determine the need for a public random drawing. Determination Day for the 2012-2013 School year is Friday, March 9th, 2012. All Pre-Enrollment forms must be received by this date.
Drawing Day:This date is established annually. If it is determined that we have space available for all applicants at a specific school site, no public random drawing will take place. However, if there are more applicants than available spaces in any specific school site, a public random drawing will be held. FAME mails notices to families if their students will be included in the public random drawing. Drawing Day for the 2012-2013 school year will be held on Friday, March 30th, 2012.
Enrollment offers:Offer letters and registration packets are sent to all students for whom we have confirmed available space after Determination Day and for those drawn for limited spaces on Drawing Day.
Enrollment preferences in the case of a public random drawing are as follows:
- Siblings of currently enrolled students
- Siblings of students selected during a public random drawing
- School employees Alameda County resident
Remaining students: Once available spaces are filled at Drawing Day, additional students are added to our waiting list in the order drawn and receive registration packets as space becomes available.
Late forms: Any Pre-Enrollment forms received after Determination Day are added to a waiting list in the order received after the public random drawing has been completed. Registration packets are sent out as space becomes available.

Outreach Activities
The School strives to achieve a racial and ethnic balance of students that reflects the general population of Alameda County through marketing and recruitment. FAME recruits students in impacted areas and provides assistance to families in completing and returning registration applications.
- distributing flyers at local libraries and community centers in multiple languages such as English, Spanish, and Arabic;
- hosting parent information nights and community events in Alameda County with locations, dates and times scheduled in a manner that ensures, to the greatest extent possible, the greatest amount of community knowledge and interest in the School; and
- placing advertisements in free community papers.
Withdrawal Process
When a parent wishes to withdraw their student from FAME, they are requested to fill out a Withdrawal form. The form provides FAME with information needed to ensure the continuity of the student's school enrollment and distribution of school records. When a student leaves our program, the student's last known district of resident is notified. From time-to-time students must be exited due to disciplinary reasons. FAME's Suspension and Expulsion Policy (found on the governance page of our web site) details this process and the student's rights for re-enrollment after the term of the suspension or expulsion.
NOTICE OF NONDISCRIMNATORY POLICY AS TO STUDENTS
FAME Public Charter School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, athletics or other school- administered programs.
