Governance

FAME Public Charter School, a Kindergarten through 12th grade countywide charter school formerly recognized as Bay Area School for Independent Study, is operated by Bay Area School for Independent Study Inc, a 501C3 Not for Profit Public Benefit Corporation. Bay Area School for Independent Study Inc, also commonly known as BASIS, Inc. is managed by a board of five to seven members. The board president of BASIS, Inc. is a former school board president of over 10 years who presided over a local ROP program as well. The board consists of three community members, one of whom is an international businessman and the other a former Board President of a local school district with over 17 years of school board experience. The school CEO, Maram Alaiwat, serves as the secretary of the board. A fifth position is reserved for an individual from the school's sponsoring agency. FAME consists of three programs, two of which are site-based and one which is independent study. Each program is managed by a small but effective team of highly qualified administrators. The administrative team meets regularly to address areas of concern, areas of growth and areas that need to be targeted for growth. The administrative team makes recommendations and suggestions to the school CEO whom interfaces with the board via public school board meetings.
